Cubby the bear

I am a crazy  enthusiastic  shopper on Ebay and Etsy, but I have got to stop!  It is so hard for me to see all of the items from my childhood just sitting there!

I know a lot of people say you can’t go back, well I disagree…if that is where you want to be then go there!  Of course, being a genealogist helps that mantra! lol  But seriously, does it hurt to remember a time when things were good…really good….I don’t think so, just as long as you can be present when you need to be.

With that said, one Christmas, I must have been about 7, Santa brought me a little bear in my stocking one year when we were in Eau Claire, it peeked out at me and I was just beside myself!  You would wind him up and he would turn the metal pages of a small book he had, and when he was done “reading it” he would turn them back and start again….I never thought I would see him again…but guess what????

Here he is!!!!!!!!!!!

He doesn’t work correctly so he is be going back to the seller, he wasn’t cheap….although when he was originally made in the 1950’s   he cost…649171441_o

This is the one I had….

he was dark brown with red overalls…..this one is missing his book….

There was one on EBay BRAND New in the box…

Missed him….but that is OK…I was amazed at the amount of these little guys that are out there…his name is Cubby….

Here is a video of how he is to work….

My husband says that I don’t need to go back to my childhood, because I never left it!  :):)

What toy brings back great memories and feelings for you?

OK, I think you do have a 3 column design!
Anyway, I fully believe in buying stuff on Ebay to recapture your childhood! lol Seriously, I think it's the best thing since sliced bread! It brings me such joy to have some of my toys back!
So are you going to keep looking for your Bear? Eventually you'll find one that works AND matches the one you had!
I'll keep my eyes open at the flea markets here too. Maybe I'll come across Cubby! :)

YES! I too love to revisit my childhood via Ebay and I've bought a few "duplicate" toys over the years. Even better, my parents are also sentimental packrats so they have many of my original toys. Lately Mom has been downsizing and I've been the happy and lucky recipient of her finds! She returned my sweet original Raggedy Ann to me at Christmas and I can't tell you the feelings that well up inside me when I look at here---amazing how the mood, smells and sounds of childhood can return in an instant when I look into Raggedy's face! :)

Hi Sandy,
I love the little reading bear, too bad he didn't work.I've never seen one before, but I'm sure you will find one you like on eBay! I think I must be addicted, I owned my whole paycheck to my hubby this Friday! :-) Too much eBay this week, but I only discovered it about a year ago and I had no idea I could find all those old toys I used to have! My grown sons take one look in my playroom and say "she needs therapy"! :-)
Life is short, choose Joy, there's too much sadness all around.
Hugs,
Dorothy and Ms.Wilma

Oh girlfriend, you are such the perfect friend for me. You and me and our TOYS!!!!!! I could easily see us getting together to play Barbies, or house with our playhouses......

Although that bear does look a little manic and scary now......wink, wink.

Love ya,
Meri

Sandy how sweet you can find all these things and I totally understand as I have done this myself many times.
Was it you who found the dealer on EB who sold the wooden cut outs of the Easter figurers and such? I thought it was as I went right over there and got two for myself and they came last week. I love them so sturdy and well made. Nan

It's amazing to see toys that we loved isn't it? I had a stuff Chimpanzee who had red suspenders and plastic shoes that looked like white baby leather walkers. I loved him and he seemed to have gone AWOL sometime when I was around 13...I swear I check the bins at the thrifts thinking someday...I will see those baby shoes sticking up and KNOW HIM!

What an incredible find. I love things from my childhood, too. And I completely agree with you. What is wrong with trying to go back to a very simple and happy time? I consider my childhood to be the best that could be. I didn't know we were poor. And I was happy with small pleasures. I would go back, but with my iphone.

Too bad he doesn't work. Good luck in your search! I spent hours in my camps, forts and tree house as a child. Do you think I can find them on e bay? ;)
