Vintage Thingie Thursday Surprise

This post for Vintage Thingie Thursday with Suzanne at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/ was a real surprise for me yesterday! I have a first cousin that dropped off his photo album for a book I am doing on my Mother's side of the family. As I was looking thru the photos I saw a familiar table in a couple of the photos ....I was shocked! The table is now right next to my chair in my living room. My folks had had it for awhile, but I just assumed it was always theirs....surprise!

This little table has some really pretty carvings and although it has seen better days, I just love it. The glass on top is scarred and hazy in spots from so much wear, and the finish is leaving on the top, but I just love this piece and have started to think about painting it..... so here is my vintage thingie Thursday surprise! I love it even more now that I know it has been in the family for much longer than I thought! I have to ask Steve, my cousin, whose living room this is!

Have a great weekend!

Hi Sandy, I just moved to Mesa. I will have to explore your blog. I am just discovering the antique stores here. I love the table you featured. I love family treasures especially furniture and the carvings on those legs are beautiful.

Nice that you have a story with your piece of furniture! Of course, all old furniture has a story. We just don't always know what it is!

That is a nice table. You might consider refinishing it, but I think painting would ruin the effect. Take care.

A very nice table. Beautiful curvy lines.

P.S. Before you paint it, try a little Howard's on it. It's a liquid that you rub on with a cloth. It comes in a number of wood tones and it might bring it back to it's former glory. Worth a try.

How fun to have a family treasure with photos of it from the past!

OH KISMET!!! That is so fun to go through that memory with you!! Don't you love that when two perfect forces meet and you find a blessing hanging over your shoulder. love that feeling. I have my mother's locket that came to me much in the same way. Given to her best friend, bumped in to her years later & she was wearing locket. She promptly handed it off to me. love it.. chills baby, chills. Hugs. Tammy

DH and I love genealogy and this fits into our love of it. Such a discovery is wonderful for you. I do assume that you will not be painting it any time soon.
BTW we live in Phoenix and Strawberry and loved the State.

I love when stuff like that happens! I bet it's even more precious to you now that you know it's been handed down through the family. I give you credit for considering painting it. I could never do that!
Happy VTT!

What a great story! I didn't read all the comments so maybe someone mentioned it, but you can probably get replacement glass if you really want to. I would leave it as it is. It's beautiful.

Thanks for all of the comments and I have decided I will not paint it! But it does need some TLC....so I will see if I can get the "Howards" for it....or something like that! I appreciate all of your ideas, and yes, I will be getting a new piece of glass also. :)

Hi Sandy, how exciting to find one of your vintage items in a old picture. To know all your family sat around that table! If only that table could talk! LOL
Enjoyed my visit to your blog today!

Happy Thanksgiving Sandy
I just looked at your pictures on Flickr
I LOVE your mom's baby cards! They are so special. I have the card that my aunt/my godmother gave me when I was born. My mom framed it and I've had it in each of my children's rooms when they were babies- Wish I had more!
