Another Lesson in Creativity NOT!

I feel pretty stupid right now.....I went to make the decals for the jars and boy did I run into a road block! I have clear decal paper and white decal paper, and so I thought, OK...this should be on clear. Well, guess what? The decal comes out totally transparent....because there is no "white" on the back round like the original from Meyercord. They must have actually done a two step process. So I thought OK....the white will work, nope! All of the back round including where you cut around the decal is white! DRAT!!!!!! How in the heck am I going to do this? Well, my bestest friend Cheri came over and we worked on Word, I don't know Photoshop yet....and we came up with this:

Now, where you see white in the box it is white, not clear....so it changed how the decal looks.....I am so bummed! I wanted to make these for lots of things! But either you put them on a colored surface or you paint the surface a color, clear glass will not work with reproductions!

Linda, do not fear, I have an original for you......but my idea of selling these on Etsy is going to have to wait until I can figure out a way to make the decal opaque, but the back round clear.....if that is even possible. I feel pretty defeated right now. This is the best we could come up with for right now.....and it takes up the whole front square of glass on the jar......still cute but not as cute as the original! I looked at reproduction decal people on Ebay and they always show the decals on an opaque service, never clear glass..... So maybe I put this sweet little girl on something else..... Oh well another lesson in how things aren't always what they seem :)

Sandy, I can't tell you how many times I thought something would work and look so cute only to have it fail. You just chalk it up as a learning experience. Have a nice week! Twyla

You'll have no problem once you master photoshop!!

I have a stash of vintage decals and you're right. They do have an opaque layer behind the color so that they'll show up on glass.

But never fear! Once you use Photoshop, you will be able to have a layer in white (or another solid color), so you should be fine.

Try, try & try again. Don't give up. I find my best pieces come from my worst disasters. Hugs to you. Tammy

Howdy. Perhaps, if there's a craft shop/bookstore near you, you could look for info on transferring decals onto clear glass. Or, as "Into Vintage" suggested...google it.

I know nothing about it myself, but I'm sure that somewhere, your answer is waiting! Good luck! :)

Dear Sandy,
What fun it was to finally be able to visit you at 521 Lake Street. I have so enjoyed myself and have wanted one of those cracker jars just exactly like the one you gave away.
I have not been able to blog like I have in the past related to my daughter being so sick and my DH and I took care of her in our home until she went home to Jesus on 10/23/09. I WOULD HAVE NEVER EXCHANGED THE PRIVILEDGE TO TAKE CARE OF HER, BUT MY BLOGGING FAMILY MEANS THE WORLD TO ME...THEY HAVE HELPED US ALL THROUGH A VERY DIFFICULT TIME INCLUDING SENDING OVER 400 GET WELL CARDS TO MY BELOVED AMY.
my sister, Sherry, at Country Wings lives in Phoenix,Arizona.
I so much look forward to getting to know you and many others, now that I have idle, sad time.
I LOVE YOUR BLOG....vintage tablecloths, jars, decals, cherries....such a fun period in history.
Have a good week, Sandy.
Angel Hugs

Sorry to hear about your problems with this transfer. I struggle with anything technical. I'm glad you have a friend that can help you with it. One of my son's is pretty good at these things, so I save every question I have for him.
Blessings,
Marcia
