Hello everybody! Wayne and me had a wonderful 4 days in California! We stayed in a place called Hawaiian Gardens, CA. It is 1 mile from Knott’s Berry Farm and just a few from Disneyland, but we didn’t do either! :)
We asked about a beach and were told about Seal Beach….oh my gosh what an incredible place about 7 miles down the road!
I am not going to bore you with tons of vacation photos but I have to share a few…..ok…more than a few!
This was our room, it was a La Quinta and had been built in December of 2009. It was spotless and fresh and very very nice. Not to mention only 65.00 a night! We were right down the street to just about everything! Next time you go to Southern Cal with the kids, you might think of calling this place.
So, the first night…..
Seal Beach at dusk, we walked down the pier and there was Ruby’s!
we had a great meal, with Kobe hamburgers…
do I look tired? No…not al all! 6 hours in the car was not fun!
the houses that back up to Seal Beach….lucky folks!
The next day we went back down and shopped a little on their Main Street…..and ate at a place called Woody’s.
Same houses during the day, you click on any photo to see them larger.
Ruby’s was at the end of this pier.
It was cold! Even the birds were hunkered down….
These wonderful trees were along the house that backed up to the beach, I had to take a few shots of them and the sweet little cottages, probably worth a million or more!
Does anyone know what these are????? The flowers are huge and beautiful!!!!!!
Their own corner store…..
Look at these!!!!!
It was so wonderful, even the “modest” neighborhoods" way away from the beaches were neat as a pin and very well taken care of through most of the cities…..well…this is all for now, I have laundry to do! I just want to remind you to put in a comment at the 1st Anniversary post (http://521lakestreet-sandy.blogspot.com/2010/09/oh-my-gosh.html) I have some wonderful things for my giveaway!!!! And Monday I have a little Halloween surprise! Have a great weekend everybody!

Looks like a fun time.....but cold? the birds were cold? how could that be?????????
Oh Sandy Sweetie...
I love this share. This place looks a lot like Huntington Beach where we stayed one week. Oh it was so beautiful, and I have got to tell you I ate at Woody's and somewhere even have a t-shirt. They had the best darn burgers I had ever eaten. Yummy....
I also ate at Ruby's at the end of the pier. We had such a great time. We sat next to the glass windows and watched the surfers below, and there were even a few folks fishing from the pier. It has been about 4 years ago, but it was so much fun. I got up early every morning when the beach opened at 6 and walked. I met so many interesting people out searching for shells also. What fun it was.
Oh Sandy you brought back a beautiful memory, and I so thank you for it. I am thrilled that you all had a wonderful time. No place like home though, no place like home. You look wonderful sweetie. Just wonderful.
Hope you have a restful weekend. Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry

Sandy, I feel as though you have taken us right along with you! California seems like such a wonderful place. Cute as can be photo of you! I'm so glad you had such a nice time, and thank you for sharing your trip with us! E
Happy Saturday Night, Sandy....Your picture album was super-duper. I loved everyone of them, but the diner ones put the grin on my face. Buddy and I just love diners...especially the ones that are retro-deorated. I have always wanted to get to the west coast, but so far no luck. Guess I will just have to remember growing up on the Atlantic for my coach memories. Loved the post.
Hugs,
Genie from Buttons for Baga
I know this area fairly well as my son worked for Seal Beach for about a year while in college in Long Beach. He was an intern - but, you know that little Main Street is just so much fun to walk around! There is a yummy Mexican restaurant right there on the beach side - did you visit it? I love the shabby stores on Main Street, too. I'm glad you had fun. I bet you drove right past me on I-10! Too bad I didn't know, I could have waved! Or run you out some coffee and cake for the road!
It all looks wonderful. I'm glad you had a great trip.Next time consider us up here in the Redwood Empire (Northern Calif). First Saturday of every month in Eureka is Arts Alive! Many venues, both galleries and stores have wonderful displays from our huge art community, also free delicious food and live music in many spots. All fun and free.
Looks like a fun trip. Ive never been to CA and will probably never get there, so I like seeing the pictures! That burger looked sooo goood! Glad youre back safe and sound!
Ohhh
how wonderful to be at the ocean! Lucky YOU! Maybe next year we can take a vacation to the beach.
It's always nice to come back home.
Warmly,
deb :)
Welcome home! Looks like you had a wonderful time. I could almost taste that burger! I just got back from vacation last week and it is so hard to go back to work. Have a great week, Nan

I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves during your trip. That menu looks adorable and those cottages...dreamy. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos, what a beautiful place! That burger smothered in onions has made me STARVING now!! :)
Ruby's is one of my fave restaurants for many years - discovered it in the early '90s when I was walking in the mall at lunchtime with a co-worker & a Ruby's worker gave us free lunch tickets to celebrate their grand opening...immediately loved the 40s music and decor - it still always puts me in a good mood and, the best turkey burgers I've ever had...(stomach growling as I write this) I think I'm gonna go today - lucky me we have one very closeby! :)
Thanks for the post! My husband and I lived in Hawaiian Gardens for 2 years when we first got married. My husband was in the Navy and stationed at the Naval hospital-we lived in an apartment building on Bloomfield Ave. Your post brought back all kinds of memories-Thanks!!!
For my high school graduation gift, my very "well-off" great aunt gave me the gift of a trip to California with all the trimmings, nothing held back. We did San Francisco, Carmel, Los Altos, San Jose. I loved the little seaside towns with the old motels and I loved those little houses like the ones you show here.
What a fun trip AND you escaped the heat! Thanks for letting us tag along.
We went to the same places! You'll have to see my "Ruby's" posting at my blog...wasn't it so invigorating seeing the ocean and feeling that ocean breeze? It revives me like nothing else! Glad you had fun, thanks for sharing the pics! Christine @ thisandthatcreations.blogspot.com
PS - Love your blog background & header...amazing & spooky!
Looks like you had just a fabulous time...how nice! Love all the photos!
